Firearms training and personal defense

Training Philosophy

Firearms training should be controlled, grounded, and purposeful. Implied Shield focuses on fundamentals, decision-making, and practical application, not performative drills or intimidation.

Every course is built around clear objectives: safe handling, accurate shooting, confident manipulation, and a mindset aligned with responsibility and respect.

Core Training Tracks

Training is tailored to experience level, goals, and environment — from first-time firearm owners to more experienced defenders.

Foundations & Safety

Safe handling, firearm fundamentals, range conduct, and essential marksmanship skills for new or returning shooters.

Ideal for: New owners, safety refreshers, and family members who need a baseline.

Defensive Applications

Practical carry considerations, defensive marksmanship, movement, and close-range problem solving rooted in reality, not fantasy.

Ideal for: Concealed carriers and those preparing for real-world scenarios.

Skill Sustainment & Progression

Structured sessions to maintain and advance performance over time, with measurable standards and focused drills.

Ideal for: Ongoing development and serious practitioners.

Fortify — Tabletop Home Defense Training

Fortify is a scenario-based tabletop exercise game focused on home defense planning, communication, and decision-making. It turns abstract “what if” conversations into structured, repeatable training.

Using cards, injects, and evolving scenarios, Fortify helps households and small teams explore how they would respond to realistic events — from late-night disturbances to severe weather and loss of power.

  • Designed for families, partners, and small groups.
  • Works alongside live-fire training — no firearms required to play.
  • Builds shared understanding, roles, and communication patterns.
  • Aligns with Implied Shield’s philosophy of calm, responsible defense.

Fortify can be delivered as a facilitated session or as a take-home tabletop kit integrated into your broader training plan.

How Training Engagement Works

1. Define Objectives

We identify your goals: new owner safety, defensive carry, home defense preparation, or structured progression.

2. Build the Plan

We develop a training path that may include Implied Shield range work, Fortify tabletop exercises, and follow-on sessions.

3. Train & Refine

You train in controlled, focused sessions with feedback, drills, and debriefs that turn reps into capability.

Do I need prior experience or can beginners attend?

We work with all experience levels, from complete beginners to experienced shooters looking to sharpen specific skills.

Beginners: We start with fundamentals—safety, handling, mindset, and marksmanship basics. You don't need any prior experience, just willingness to learn.

Experienced shooters: We focus on decision-making under pressure, situational awareness, de-escalation, and refining mechanics for defensive scenarios.

All training emphasizes judgment and responsibility over speed or tactics.

What should I bring to training?

Required:

  • Valid ID
  • Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
  • Closed-toe shoes (no sandals or open-toed footwear)
  • Eye and ear protection (we can provide if needed)

If you own them:

  • Your firearm (cleaned and in working condition)
  • Holster (if practicing draw/carry)
  • Ammunition (we'll specify amount in pre-training communication)
  • Extra magazines (if applicable)

Don't have equipment? We can arrange rentals or provide loaners for training. Let us know in advance.

What makes your training different from other firearms courses?

We focus on judgment, de-escalation, and responsible decision-making—not just marksmanship or tactical drills.

Our philosophy:

  • Every trigger pull is a legal, moral, and tactical decision
  • Avoiding conflict is always preferable to winning it
  • Competence with firearms requires mental discipline, not just mechanical skill
  • Real-world defensive situations rarely look like range scenarios
  • Training should build confidence and restraint in equal measure

We emphasize what happens before and after a defensive encounter as much as during it.

Do you provide training for organizations or security teams?

Yes. We work with schools, churches, businesses, and security teams to develop tailored training programs.

Organizational training typically includes:

  • Threat assessment and scenario planning specific to your facility
  • Use-of-force policy review and development
  • Active threat response protocols
  • Firearms proficiency and qualification (if armed personnel)
  • De-escalation and conflict avoidance strategies
  • Legal and liability considerations

We can train on-site or at a suitable range, depending on your needs.

Where does training take place?

Training locations vary based on your needs and the type of instruction:

  • Classroom/dry-fire training: Can be conducted at your location or a neutral facility
  • Live-fire training: Local shooting ranges we partner with (indoor and outdoor options)
  • Scenario-based training: Private facilities or suitable outdoor locations

For organizational training, we can often come to your location for classroom portions and arrange range time nearby.

All training locations are vetted for safety, accessibility, and suitability for instruction.

Do you offer concealed carry permit training?

Yes. We provide North Carolina concealed carry permit training that meets all state requirements, including classroom instruction, live-fire qualification, and legal education.

Our CCW courses go beyond minimum requirements to ensure you understand not just the mechanics of carrying, but the responsibility, legal implications, and decision-making involved.
